John and I will fly into LA tomorrow--me from Minneapolis and he from NYC--and we will regroup for dinner at the divine Art Deco-styled Sunset Tower Hotel in West Hollywood. Oh, Oscars weekend in LA: What a trip!
Gang:
As you know, I have spent the past week in Minneapolis, and I have had such a spiffy time…
The Minneapolis restaurant scene is really heating up–especially in neighborhoods like the Warehouse District–so the culinary doings kept me on my toes. I had fabulous meals at The Bachelor Farmer, Tilia, Saffron, and Origami… And I love the city’s throwback eateries, too, including the Oak Grill at Macy’s.
Tomorrow I fly from Minneapolis to Los Angeles for a week, and I cannot wait. John and I will meet up tomorrow night for dinner with our dear pals from Currey & Co. lighting, Bethanne Matari and Cecil Adams, at the very chic Sunset Tower Hotel on Sunset Boulevard. The Vanity Fair Oscars party will take place at the Sunset Tower on Sunday, so I am hoping to rub elbows with a few high-octane celebrities on Saturday evening.
Celebrities are so silly and so told what to do and how to dress: I love the whole fascination with them. Still, maybe I can bum a cigarette off Jennifer Aniston (not that I smoke, but maybe I’ll social smoke tomorrow to schmooze an A-lister or two). Frankly, the only celebs who would “wow” me are Madonna and Tilda Swinton.
And, no, John and I are not shacking up at the Sunset Tower.
We are staying in Downtown LA since the Design Bloggers Conference is taking place there… We have booked a room at what looks like an amazing hostelry, the Moroccan-styled and deliciously inexpensive Hotel Figueroa. John and I are so excited to check out the Figueroa. The colors! The ethnic influences! The drama. Plus, we want to wander around downtown and check out such spots as the Bradbury Building and the Walt Disney Concert Hall and restaurants such as First & Hope, Patina, and Cafe Pinot.
The Hotel Figueroa has Madcap Cottage written all over it…
But will it live up to the hype?

The facade of Downtown LA's Hotel Figueroa. John and I cannot wait to check into this funky hostelry with its Moroccan-styled good looks.

A glittering public space at the Hotel Figueroa. Does the hotel really look this good? If so, I might just never leave.

The Figueroa's pool is something of a dreamscape... The greenery, the patio, the oasis-like feel. Looks sublime!
