Filming with HGTV!

Friday, November 16th, 2012 Sublime!

One of the stars of our HGTV television shoot for the program "You Live in What?" was our brand-new Descartes two seat sofa in Cookie House linen-cotton. If you don't know British import, you should! Newly arrived in NYC, crafts the most gorgeous and bespoke sofas, chairs, and footstools in wonderful fabrics--and at a delicious price point.

Happy weekend!

John and I were lucky enough to have HGTV film our home upstate last weekend for their fabulous show “You Live in What?.”

Madcap Cottage was once an 1840s-era schoolhouse, so the home perfectly fit the show’s concept. The day went swimmingly… Thanks to producer Toni Donaldson and her terrific team for making the shoot a lot of fun.

Apparently, Madcap Cottage will appear on HGTV in early 2013, so stay tuned!

Weenie Beanie!

Weenie snoozed during the entire HGTV shoot upon her custom Madcap Cottage dog bed while Jasper ran about and caused a bit of a ruckus. Did you know that John and I craft custom dog beds? Well, now you do!

Descartes Delicious!

Here's another view of our two-seat sofa that John and I adorned with custom Madcap Cottage pillows.

We Love a Little Good Press!

Thank you to the divine crew at New York magazine for featuring our humble yard sale in their delicious blog, above. What a treat! We love you, Catie Keck!

I hope you had a fabulous Memorial Day weekend! Did you tackle any interiors projects? Do tell…

As you probably know, John and I hosted our World-Famous Annual Yard Sale and Vintage Finds Bonanza in cozy Hobart, New York at our Madcap Cottage, and the sale was a terrific success. We had a blast, meeted and greeted, flitted and flocked, and played endless songs from Foster the People and Nicki Minaj.

Twinkle, twinkle, little star.┬áNow spend all your money ’cause they pay, pay, pay…

Happily, we moved a ton of merchandise. Thank you to everyone who stopped by… Paula, Kira Nissen, Irene, Barb, Eileen, Steve and Jessica, Gemma, Marge, Gary, Bea, and, of course, Diana Parton, we adore you!

Here are a few shots from the sale…

Meet Me at the Madcap!

Madcap Cottage is ready for its yard sale close-up!

Stock Up, Buttercup!

Here's the first shopper of the day... Hello, Farrow & Ball paint!

Coffee Talk!

Our terrific neighbor Brent Ogborn, aged 11, set up a coffee-and-lemonade stand next door and, apparently, made a killing. Kudos, Brent! John and I baked the cookies and brownies that Brent sold. We gave him the profits for the baked goods if he would keep our cups filled with lemonade. I think we all made out swimmingly!

Think Sink!

My super-cool parents, Lois and Jary, take a break in a fabulous American Standard farm sink that we soon sold.

Be Ware!

Merchandising a yard sale is so important! Here, we have a few delicious chairs at the end of our driveway to entice shoppers to visit... And how about our custom Madcap Cottage pillows done up in all sorts of crazy colors.

Taking in the Scene!

A few of our favorite regulars take in the wares and ponder what to buy...

Park It!

Cars line Maple Avenue, our charming street in leafy Hobart, New York. The mayor of Hobart, New York lives across the street from us, and even he stopped by... Our yard sale is something of an EVENT.

Dine by Design!

My parents join us for dinner at the sublime Mountain Brook Inn in Bovina, New York. We celebrated the end of the first day of the yard sale with fried chicken and watermelon lemonade. We drank lots of wine later...

Done, Done, and Done!

The yard sale is done and done... The tent is cleaned up and cleaned out. John and Jasper take a walk in the backyard at Madcap Cottage and survey the scene. See you next Memorial Day, folks!

Whew, what a week! John and I are running, running, running and loving every minute of it.

And we aren’t just thinking of what’s on our plates right now, but also what’s coming up down the pike. Take our World-Famous Annual Yard Sale, for instance…

What, you don’t know our World-Famous Annual Yard Sale?!

Every Memorial Day, John and I host our World-Famous Annual Yard Sale at Madcap Cottage in Hobart, New York, and it has become sort of legendary in the Catskills. We spend months getting ready for the sale, so the last few weekends have been all about collecting items from Brooklyn ear-marked for the sale and bringing them upstate.

And, wow, it’s going to be a damn good sale.

Fabric. Gobs.

Furniture. Loads.

Lighting. And how!

Wallpaper, objects, Chinoiserie. Check, check, and check.

Says John, “The Madcap Cottage World-Famous Annual Yard Sale is so much fun. We sell really fun products, and we meet amazing people. It’s a terrific weekend!”

Here’s a peek at last year’s sale.

And mark your calendars for the 2012 sale taking place on May 26th and 27th in charming Hobart, New York.

Trio with Brio!

John poses for a pre-sale lunch with my parents, Lois and Jary, who flew up from Tampa, Florida to spend Memorial Day with us. My parents are crazy about Madcap Cottage. Of course, we serve Champagne for lunch!

Dog Days Are Over!

Jasper scopes the scene as John and I set up tents and bring out the merchandise.

Sale of Sales!

Getting the backyard ready for the sale. By the end of our prep work the entire backyard was packed to the gills with glorious items.

Chair Apparent!

If you are looking for fabulous chairs, our World-Famous Annual Yard Sale is nirvana. That's my dad, Jary, helping out in the background.

Parental Pleasures!

After a long, long day running the World-Famous Annual Yard Sale, we kick back with my parents at the Mountain Brook Inn in Bovina, New York for a relaxed dinner in the sublime dining room. I clean up OK, n'est-ce pas?
