As you know from reading your favorite design-minded blog, John and I discovered Palm Springs about two years back and instantly fell in love.
Um, how had we never visited this desert-kissed sanctuary before?
During our recent jaunt in Los Angeles we decided to escape for a quick two-day retreat to PS to turn off and enjoy some of the mild weather beneath the luxuriant palms. Jasper and Weenie joined us, too, and they simply loved life in the desert.
This go-around, John and I booked a room at the Colony Palms Hotel, perfectly situated at the edge of downtown Palm Springs. We have visited The Parker before, and it was a little too much of a see-and-be-seen scene. And we are crazy about the Ace Hotel & Swim Club for the King’s Highway restaurant (a Googie-styled former Denny’s–fabulous!), but it’s not necessarily our scene for shacking up.
The Colony Palms was heaven! Designed by Martyn Lawrence Bullard of Million Dollar Decorator fame, the CPH boasts vintage, Mediterranean-style architecture packed with loads of color and ethnic influences. There are gorgeous gardens filled with towering palm trees and fragrant lemon and orange trees. And the scene is low key and luxuriant. Jasper and Weenie especially liked the patio at our casita, and John and I adored the outdoor soaking-size bathtub, perfect for staring at the stars with a glass of a cool Sauvignon Blanc. And the staff couldn’t be any sweeter or more helpful… And don’t overlook dinner al fresco at the stylish Purple Palm Restaurant & Bar.
If you are looking for an escape in Palm Springs, look over the Colony Palms. We love it.
